Let the Sunshine In!

My boys love making these sun catchers. I’ve shared the tutorial before. I’ve always got extra tissue paper on hand to craft new sun catchers. A quick and easy project for any afternoon.

Get Your Bling On!

Start with an empty bottle and fill it 2/3 of the way up with water.

Add food coloring to your bottle.

Then add something to float in your bottle. I chose to use glitter and sequins.

Top off the rest of your bottle with oil. You can see that the water and oil do not mix.

Shake up the bottle and watch your glitter and sequins float around!

Monogram letters are everywhere! Even kids can get in on the fun by creating their very own yarn letter. Depending on the age of your child they may need assistance getting yarn in all the nooks and crannies of their letter. But it’s also ok if the cardboard shows through! Remember, this is all about having fun!

Start by printing out your letter on typing paper. Try to choose a basic bold font. It will be much easier to cover with yarn.

Cut around the letter and then tape it to some cardboard. Grab a pair of heavy duty scissors or an exacto knife and cut out your letter. (This step probably needs an adult, for safety’s sake)

Now that your letter is cut out, grab some of your favorite yarn.

You will need a ball of yarn small enough to fit through the openings in your letter. Don’t worry about having enough. If your small ball runs out you can just start with a new piece.

Begin by taping your yarn onto the back of the letter. And then just start wrapping!

You will need to keep the yarn relatively tight to maintain an even look.

As you go around curves and corners you will need your yarn to overlap a bit on the inside. That’s ok! Just keep wrapping.

Wrap the yarn at an angle to cover as much cardboard as you can. Then with a separate piece of yarn you can wrap the middle of the B.

Corners are also tricky. Lots and lots of overlap on the inside edge.

The tall section of the B had one spot that was going to be nearly impossible to cover by wrapping. So I got a bit of glue, cut some strips of yarn…

…and just started sticking them on. I knew that the edges would get covered by the yarn I was wrapping.

It still required some angled wrapping, but in the end the whole letter was covered.

And honestly, I love how it turned out! This baby will be on my mantle by the end of the day!

I Love It, I Love It, I Love It!

There’s nothing I love more than pairing photos and words (this is a scrapbooking website after all!). Unless it’s pairing photos with my children’s words. Which is why I’m in love with the iLove album. It’s a chance for your kids to document their favorite things. And for you to have this little snapshot into their lives!

Grab a cheap 4×6 photo album. Don’t worry about what the cover looks like, you won’t see it in the end.

You can either use some 4×6 notecards in this album OR you can download the PDFs I used to make the Title Card and the Journaling Cards.

Because the cover is slightly larger than 4×6 I backed my title card with some red paper. I also stamped some decoration on the card. You could doodle with markers, add heart stickers, or let your child do their own decorating!

On the first page put a picture of your child right now with their age. This will help you remember this moment in time in the years to come.

Then let your child decide what photos they want to include. You might even turn over your smart phone and let them take the pics!

They could document their favorite team, toys, food, outfit, school subject, book…the list could go on and on! The beauty of a project like this is that you can add to it over time. It’s good for lots of rainy days! 🙂

What are your kids favorite crafts? Leave a comment! I’d love to hear all about it!
