This week we are talking all about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle party ideas. With the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie coming out, turtle power is going to be the talk of the town. And little boys everywhere are going to want a TMNT party of their own.
Today I’ve got some ideas to jump start your party. Let’s talk decor and costumes!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Party Ideas
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Decor
It is my belief that a lot of your party decor can be simple if you have one key themed item! With these TMNT paper lanterns the only thing else you will need is a green table cloth and some solid paper ware in red, blue, orange and purple.
Start by gathering your supplies. You will need 4 green lanterns (or you could use helium balloons), streamers in blue, red, purple and orange, as well as some wiggle eyes. Some tape and glue will come in handy as well.
Cut your streamer into two pieces that will wrap around your lantern. Leave it extra long so you have enough length to tie it with.
To help keep your sanity you will want to tape the streamer to keep it on the lantern. Otherwise it will slip off repeatedly. And may make you want to scream. I’m just guessing here.
Add the second streamer to make the mask a little wider. Then tie the two strips of streamer into a knot. Be gentle so that you don’t rip the streamers.
Now it’s time to add the eyes. I’m using my go to adhesive, Glossy Accents. But you could use white glue as well, or even tape.
Stick the wiggle eyes onto your paper lantern. Repeat the process for each turtle.
Aren’t these turtle lanterns adorable?!! Love how they turned out!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Costume
I want all of the guests at our party to be able to dress up like their favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. With a couple of simple costume ideas our party will be full of turtle power!
First up is the turtle shell. Gather a disposable roasting pan for each guest and a selection of decorative tape, colorful Sharpies and some ribbon.
Won’t it be fun to let each child decorate their own shell? It’s a nice little art project to kick off your party.
I chose to use blue and green sharpie to trace rings on my turtle shell.
Then I added a bit of green scotch washi tape.
A little bit of orange masking tape gives my shell a bit more color. And offers the perfect place to add the TMNT logo. 🙂
A little more orange masking tape on the side of my shell gave it a bit of fun color.
Once your shell is decorated cut two strips of ribbon to use as shoulder straps.
Use a pair of scissors to poke a hole in each corner of the pan.
Then poke the end of the ribbon through the hole.
Tie a knot to keep the ribbon from pulling through.
Repeat the process on the other corner. And then do the same on the other side.
The two straps will help hold your shell on the back of your little turtle.
How’s that for a happy little turtle.
No turtle costume would be complete without a mask. To create your own grab some felt (from the fabric dept so you can get enough yardage), a mask template, and a pair of sharp scissors.
Begin by tracing your mask on the felt. I opted for felt because it is a sew free way to create your mask.
Trim around the top of the mask leaving space for the tie strip. And then trim around the bottom of the mask.
Be sure to cut the tie extra long to be sure it fits around your child’s head. I always end up needing more fabric to tie than I think I will.
Then trace and cut out the eye holes of your mask.
And now you have one mask ready to go!
Check the length of the ties and trim off the excess.
That’s one cute masked man!
My boy is loving his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume. He’s decked out and ready to party!
