Are you looking for scrapbook layout ideas? Today I’m sharing a layout about a beginning and end of school tradition. I can’t claim credit for this tradition, it’s all because of my awesome neighbor, but my family LOVES that we celebrate the beginning and end of a school year with donuts in the driveway!
- Design Inspiration: I loved this layout be Jen Gallacher. You can get so many photos on one page and you could even use up some 3×4 cards in the process. Seemed like a perfect fit for my story.
- Color Inspiration: I really wanted to use up some hexagon paper that I had. So I used those papers as the jumping off point for my color scheme. The fact that there are similar patterns helps to tie the entire page together and keep it from looking busy.
Since this tradition happens twice a year I was able to search through my photos tagged “school” to find plenty of donuts in the driveway pics. Then I selected a few favs to use on the layout. I sized them at 3×4 to fit on the lower half of the layout.
To create a dividing line between the top and the bottom of the page I layered a border strip with some washi tape and added some round stickers along the scallop. It was just a bonus that the circles look a lot like donuts. Love that!
I added a notecard to house the title block. That gives the title extra emphasis and pulls the two fonts together. For a bit of extra embellishment I cut out a hexagon shape from the paper used at the bottom and placed a heart on top.
Since this tradition happens every year I decided to write my journaling as a circle story. All that means is that I begin and end in the same place. Think of the children’s story “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.” I love using children’s books as the inspiration for my journaling techniques on my layouts!
