I love a fun cell phone case. But sometimes I need to go with a more practical option. So I decided to find a way to personalize a cell phone case. And I’m sharing my step by step process with you!
For their birthdays my boys each got a hand-me-down iPhone to use as an iPod. Because they are boys, and likely to drop things, I wanted to be sure to get a case that would protect the phone. So we bought an Otterbox.
And while the case is nice, it wasn’t as fun as I wanted it to be. So for my oldest I decided to personalize the phone with a Minecraft logo. With a bit of Square1 printable this cell phone case upgrade was super easy to create!
My first step was to search google for an image I could use. It’s easiest if your image is surrounded by white so that you have a definite place to cut. You also want to be sure the file size is large enough to have decent print quality. I look for images that are at least 500×500, but larger is better.
Once you find the image you want click on View Image. Then right click and save the image to your computer.
Open your image in Photoshop Elements.
Then create a new file by going to File…New…Blank File.
You want the dimensions to be the same as your Square1 Printable. Set the width to 8.5 x 11 and the resolution to 300 pixels/inch.
Drag and drop your image onto your blank file.
At this point I usually turn on the grid so that I can easily see how big my image is. To do this go to View…Grid.
Grab the corner of your image and drag it to the size you want. I made my image 1.5 in square.
Using the move tool, move your image to a corner. That allows you to save the rest of the Square1 Printable for other projects.
In the layers panel Right Click and choose Flatten Image. Now you can print your document.
Because I know this phone will be handled regularly, as well as being tossed into my purse, I wanted to seal the image. So I grabbed some matte Mod Podge and a foam brush.
Once the image was dry from printing (about 15 min) I painted on a thin layer of Mod Podge.
When the Mod Podge was dry I cut around my image.
Now it’s time to peel and stick the Square1 Printable to the phone.
And there you have it! A fun personalized cell phone case for my sweet boy!
