It’s back to school time so I started racking my brain for teacher gift ideas. But then I decided that last year’s gifts were so well received why not do something similar this year?
I began with some bins from Target (found in the dollar section) and some amazing product from a company called Square1. It’s like vinyl but it’s actually made from fabric. Square1 products are a safe alternative to vinyl . It is a self adhesive backed woven fabric. And they are re-stickable, not to mention acid free/PVC free! This stuff is seriously AMAZING! And now that I’m on their creative team you will be seeing many more fun projects using their products.
My first step was to create a cut file for my Cricut. I use the Sure Cuts A Lot software so that I can cut any font I like. Since both of my boys have teachers’ with H names I went ahead and cut out two Hs.
The Square1 product cuts so smoothly! I did go ahead and do a multi cut (2x) to be sure I had cut all the way through the fabric and it’s backing.
Just peel off the backing and stick it on. That’s it! In fact, my son wanted to help so I let him stick it on. Then when he left the room I peeled it off and straightened it back out. Came off cleanly, went right back on with no issues. Sticks amazingly well. I think I might just be in love!
Then it was on to the tumblers. Again I used SCAL and my Cricut to cut out the names for the tumblers.
Ok, I have to admit, I’ve not done much with vinyl. But I’ve heard it can be a PAIN to work with and often involving transfer tape to get it right. Well not Square1! I just peeled a bit of the backing at a time and stuck it down. Then I used a rub-on tool to get it really stuck down. Now I used yellow repositionable individual color sheet because that is what I had on hand. And with hand washing it will be fine. But if I was doing this again I would probably use the permanent individual color sheet just for peace of mind.
Once I had the cup and bin made I pulled together the rest of the gift basket. I’m lucky because our school PTA has put together a list of all the teacher favorites. I just hop on the website and look up what each teacher loves and I can add it to their basket!
I finished off the gift basket with this note. Because the basket is full of snacks, gum, and a drink I had fun playing with words in the card. Love starting the school year off right by celebrating the amazing teachers my boys are spending their year with!
