Inspiration Blog Swap with Gretchen Schmidt

Hey everyone! I’m Gretchen Schmidt and my awesome and ubber talented friend Monica invited me to guest post on her blog today. A little blog swap amongst friends if you will. At the end of this post you’ll find a link to Monica’s blog entry on my blog.

We decided to go through each other’s blogs and find a bit of inspiration and get creative! Monica has so many fun designs, ideas, and articles I didn’t even know where to start. I finally happened upon this colorful layout titled Baseball Boy that really stood out to me. My first thought was, I don’t like scrapping sports either! I’ve got a lot too, I’ve been collecting sports related photos since my daughters freshman year in high school (and she’s now a freshman in college!). I also loved the look of the blocking with the papers and photos, the bright pops of color in Monica’s layout, and how the journaling is set up. Completely inspired, I set off in search of sports photos.

My version of Monica’s Baseball Boy Layout:

Funny thing happened on the way to my sports layout… the inspiration adapted. Which, I think, is the great thing about being inspired because it can adapt and change and grow. I found several snow related photos that I thought would work perfect for the overall layout design and went with a different theme.

As you can see, I kept the same design from Monica’s original layout, I just went with a snow theme photos instead of sports related ones. I loved the detailed border that Monica created on her double page spread and decided to do something similar. I picked some fun patterned papers to use, die cut some snowflakes and added Glossy Accents to each, then finished the layout off by adding my own personal touch of outlining. I am so happy to get these photos scrapped and put away. Thank you Monica for the wonderful design and inspiration. 🙂

More about Me:

I’m a wife, mom of three, scrapbooker, cardmaker, and paper crafter. I’ve taught two online classes for True Scrap (I love teaching this way!), and am currently on the Sizzix Design Team. You can see my online classes here. I feel truly blessed to have found such an amazing hobby and passion. I’ve been lucky enough to participate in various parts of the industry throughout the years, from being published, teaching, and guest designing. Creating is such an amazing outlet; I don’t know what I would do without it. Honestly, I think it helps keep me sane!
