Ordinary Sunday Moments {Take Twelve}

It’s August people! Can you believe that we are 8 months into 2012? I’m in shock over here. This month the 12th fell on a Sunday. I decided it was the perfect opportunity to document our life at church.

  • Design Inspiration: Trying to find new ways to get 12 photos on one layout is quite a challenge. 🙂 I decided that for this month I wanted to have the two 4×6 photos staggered rather than one on top of the other.
  • Color Inspiration: My colors were inspired by our church building. We have lots of neutrals and the building is made of brick which gives a lovely subtle pattern. And then we have this gorgeous sculpture in the sanctuary that has orange and brown tones. I felt like those colors would work perfectly in my layout about a day at church.

I decided my title block would be stamped. So I created this fun layered area in the corner created by the staggered photos. Lots of doilies and circles. I even included a piece of dictionary paper. I LOVE the subtle addition of dictionary paper with words that go along with your topic.

A lot of the depth and layering happened in the lower left and upper right corners. So to bring your eye down to the bottom and ground the photo grouping a bit I added this fun camera strip and a small flower/brad embellishment. These fabric brads were actually buttons with a metal eye on the back. That meant they wouldn’t lay flat. Which is where my handy dandy Tim Holtz scissors came in. Those bad boys cut the eye right off the back of the brad allowing me to add a glue dot and press the brad flat on my page. Yay!

I’ve never before used doilies on one of my layouts. But something about this topic just speaks of comfort and home to me. So doilies felt like a fun way to represent that feeling. I clustered the doily with some other fun more modern circles. I used the lines on one of the circles to write in my journaling. I kept it simple with a list of things we often do at church. Even ending the morning with a time out on the steps because my children were running in and out of the building like wild people (they aren’t supposed to go outside without Mom or Dad). A very typical Sunday morning. 🙂

Have you participated in Ella’s Take Twelve Photo Challenge yet? It’s never too late! There’s even time to participate this month to be eligible to win an amazing class from Big Picture called “Get Great Photos with Any Camera” by Elisha Snow. Just snap your twelve photos and link up here. There’s not very many people linked up yet this month so your odds of winning are very good! You have until midnight Saturday August 18th to add your link.
