Oh how I love this month’s One Little Word prompt! An excuse to have some fun messy artistic play = one happy girl! If you hopped over from Margie’s blog you are in the right place! I’m Monica and this is Scrap Inspired, feel free to stop and stay awhile! Or if you are interested to learn more about what goes on around here you can sign up for my email newsletter in the right sidebar! Now for some OLW fun!
My OLW colors this year are yellows and golds with a bit of gray tossed in. I stuck with that when creating these mini canvases. And I LOVE how bright and happy it looks! Here they are row by row.
Each canvas started with a base of paint (all products linked below). The first one highlights my word “trust.” To get the lighter colors I stamped once on scrap paper, and then stamped off the remaining ink on the canvas. The second canvas combined paint and white spray mist. Then I punched a vellum circle and stamped my sentiment on top. To finish off this row I painted a light yellow base, used a studio calico mask and added pearl circles. Then I added a wood veneer M, which I spray misted with white, onto a metal rimmed tag.
This row uses several fun painting techniques. On the first canvas I used extra thick paint to create the brush strokes. I tried to go for an ombre effect by using more yellow at the bottom and allowing it to lighten toward the top. I added another wood veneer shape spray misted with white. The second canvas began with a coat of gesso that I pressed a piece of flip flop (the bottom) into while it was still wet. Once that dried I used some gold spray mist. When that was dry I used the flip flop again to add some yellow paint. To finish it off I stamped a sentiment. I stamped it first in the middle and then stamped again above and below so that the top and bottom were lighter while the center was full color. Lots of fun layers and texture on this one! The final canvas was painted with pearl paint and spray misted with gold. Then I added a piece of transparency on top and attached it with washi tape. A few yellow gems added the perfect glimmery touch!
The first canvas in this row began with peral paint. When that dried I painted some light yellow onto a piece of bubble wrap and pressed it onto the canvas. Then I used some puches and stamps to complete the canvas. The middle canvas also began with pearl paint. I stamped an adorable frame and used the same repeat stamping technique I discussed earlier to get the lighter colors. I stamed the word love several times (I used post its to cover the part of the stamp I didn’t want ink on. that helped me stamp only the letters I wanted). Another wood veneer shape on this one. This time I pressed it into gray ink and topped it with Glossy Accents. So shiny and pretty! The final canvas began with Gesso. I used my paint brush to create a stippling technique. Once that dried I rubbed some light yellow distress ink around the edges. Then I stamped the gray circles (again stamping off for lighter areas). I wanted them to be darkest in the bottom right corner and get lighter as they moved up the canvas. Finally I added some darker yellow distress ink to the bottom edge.
These canvases represent several things for me. This trust journey is between God and me. I have to believe I can accomplish my goals and work every day toward realizing my dreams. Part of this involves trusting and loving myself. My daily mantra has become…Trust in God, trust in me, trust I’m exactly where I need to be!
I shared with you before that my husband decided to join me by choosing a word this year. On more than one occasion he has shared his story with others. I’m always so moved to hear him talk about how his word is working in his life. Recently he shared this on facebook…
Sometimes you choose your word and sometimes it chooses you…but I believe either way, your word is exactly what you need today!
Thanks for stopping by and reading through this wordy post!
Your next stop on the blog hop is Jamie. If you get lost along the way I’ve got the entire list at the bottom of this post. Happy hopping!

Love all the texture and layers of your cards, Monica! I think my favorite is the gesso-ed card with the days of the week. Really love that one!
Thanks Lisa!
Seeing you with washi tape made me smile
Fun to see how you’ve created each one.
Washi tape makes me smile too.
Thanks so much!
Wonderful canvases. It’s amazes me how my words over the past few years have been exactly what I needed at the time.

Thanks Jill! I have felt the same way! My words have been exactly what I need!
Your canvases are beautiful! Love the bright, happy colors. It’s great that your husband is joining you with his own word.
Thanks Monica! It has been nice sharing this journey with him!
How cool is that you turned a flip flop into a stamp?!?? That is definitely some inspired scrapping : ) And thanks for sharing your husband’s words, too, it must be neat to do OLW together.
Thanks Cynthia! I love upcycling things to use as texture stamps.
Flip flops are cheap and easy to cut up (especially when the strap breaks).
gosh monica! these are so lovely. really love the yellow/gray combo. and the layers and textures are so great.
Thanks Kelly! I’m really loving that combo too. Makes me want to go create something right now.
Love all the texture on your canvases, and the colour palette…so pretty!
Thanks so much Veronica!
Your canvases look great and I love that your husband is playing along!
Thanks Cheri! It’s great having him join in on the fun.
